What the public can do at Beloit College

Founded in 1846, when Wisconsin was still a territory, Beloit College is the state’s oldest continuously operating college. From sporting events and historic museums to delicious food and scenic campus views, the Beloit College campus is full of life for its students and the community.

Located right on campus, the Wright Museum of Art is open to the public and offers a wide range of exhibits to explore. This museum, with a history spanning more than 95 years, houses around 6,000 works in its permanent collection. Visitors can enjoy pieces by regional and student artists, as well as national touring exhibitions.

Also, in the college community for more than 125 years, is the Logan Museum of Anthropology. This museum offers a close look at global cultures with its extensive exhibits focused on anthropology and archaeology, with more than 300,000 objects in its collection.

To explore more of Beloit’s history, take a walk using the Beloit & Beyond Passport Trails. The Beloit College campus has many featured stops on Visit Beloit’s Outdoor Art Trail and Historical Walking Trail. Sign up for free at visitbeloit.com, check in to these locations, and earn a prize. Along the way, you’ll encounter sculptures by artist O.V. Shaffer, historic buildings, and the Effigy Mounds. These mounds were created by Native Americans who once inhabited the area, and feature more than 20 unique animal shapes, including a turtle-shaped mound that serves as the college’s unofficial mascot.

Just across the street from the main campus is the Powerhouse, Beloit College’s student union, recreation center, and athletics facility. Once a power plant, the building has been fully renovated into a dynamic space that serves both students and the local community. Hamiltons Café, located inside the Powerhouse, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner during the week and weekends.

The public is always welcome to attend special events at Beloit College, from NCAA Division III sporting events to annual celebrations. Beloiter Days, held every September, brings together alumni, families, friends, and students for a weekend full of engaging programs. Another popular event to keep an eye out for is Folk N Blues, a lively annual music festival that showcases performances centered around hip hop culture.
